Technology specialist launches campaign to increase worker productivity through use of multiple monitors
Kensington is launching a campaign to help employers maximise worker productivity by encouraging the use of two monitors at the desktop, to provide dual-screen functionality.
Recent research for Microsoft has revealed that workers using two or more screens simultaneously can increase their productivity by up to 50 per cent.
The study, from Microsoft’s R&D team , found that increasing the computer’s user display space made it easier for subjects to complete assigned tasks, as engaging peripheral vision improves spatial memory.
The campaign also aims to address another challenge – the need to make the most of existing business assets.
“We want to encourage businesses to make the most of what they already have,” said George Foot, director at Kensington Europe. “Almost every company will have monitors sat in storage collecting dust. Using them to improve productivity and help people get things done more quickly is a simple and cost-effective way to improve the state of IT at work.”
One option is the Multi View Monitor Adapter from Kensington, a small device that allows users to run their applications on a second monitor.
This could allow the intensive spreadsheet user to read emails in real time, or the researcher to keep one web browser window constantly active, saving on time and reducing the chance of error due to the need to constantly switch between documents or applications.
“As large investments in IT are set to wane in 2009, simple, easy to use and peripherals that can be quickly installed by the user could unlock the value of the equipment already in the building,” Foot added. “Kensington aims to encourage business to get the most of their workforce, by taking advantage of a simple and scientifically proven idea – that two screens are better than one.”
