Kensington’s SlimBlade™ Trackball gives the mouse a major twist

Kensington’s SlimBlade™ Trackball gives the mouse a major twist

05/01/2009

‘The mouse is dead, long live the mouse,’ says Kensington

Kensington, the computing accessories company, has launched the SlimBlade Trackball, a device with a twist that allows you to control your content with a ‘revolutionary twist’. The device has a unique user interface and twist motion of control that allows users to move seamlessly between functions without taking their hand off the ball.

Bill Gates recently predicted that conventional computer accessories like the keyboard and mouse would soon become relics. Content is changing as users access it in new and different ways. Kensington has created an input device for the future – the SlimBlade Trackball is a revolutionary way of interacting with data and applications.

A combination of functions built into the device lets the user navigate, adjust media controls and browse documents with a rotation of the ball. The smooth ergonomic design will heighten the efficiency and fun of the computing experience.

The ruby red trackball is the visual focal point of the product, encircled by a slightly concave, brushed aluminium ring. Kensington’s technology allows the trackball to seamlessly control both cursor movement and vertical scrolling, so users don’t have to drag the mouse to a static position on the screen.

“The universal device works for all Macs and PCs, and connects to desktops through a high-quality braided cord,” said George Foot, director at Kensington Europe. “It allows users navigate through music, pictures and text using media or document view mode with unparalleled ease.”

Foot added: “Using the Trackball makes popular applications like iTunes, Google Maps and Google Earth even more accessible. Kensington has also produced a short online tutorial for users to familiarise themselves with the new product.”

“The SlimBlade™ Trackball is the missing piece – the future of the mouse,” Foot concluded.
