Kryptonite and Distributor Found Guilty of Patent Infringement; Jury Awards Kensington More Than $1 Million in Damages
ACCO Brands, Inc. and its Kensington division today announced that they have prevailed in a lawsuit against Kryptonite Corporation and its distributor, American Power Conversion Corporation (APC), protecting Kensington's patented computer security lock technology. ACCO's Kensington division is the maker of the market-leading MicroSaver computer security cable locks and holds numerous patents relating to its lock technology.
A jury in Marshall, Texas agreed with Kensington on every count that Kryptonite's products - all four models of the Quick Mount Cable Lock - infringe Kensington's patents. The jury found that Kensington should be paid damages in excess of $1.13 million by Kryptonite and APC. ACCO Brands and Kensington will now seek injunctive relief to prevent future sales of the infringing products.
"While we aren't surprised by this courtroom victory, it underscores the critical importance of vigorously defending our patented products and intellectual property," said Paul Easthope, President of Kensington Technology Group. "There is no substitute for the Kensington MicroSaver, and we will continue to advance our long history of innovation by providing customers and consumers with the most reliable computer security products on the market. Kensington is a recognized leader and innovator in computer security - we created the security slot found on 95 percent of all laptops made today - and we will continue to set the industry standard in computer physical security, with products specifically designed to work with the Kensington Security Slot."
