Kensington® And Comarco Announce Multi-Year Partnership Agreement

1/6/2005

The ChargeSource division of Comarco, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMRO), and Kensington Technology Group, a leading maker of accessories that enhance the lifestyle of the Digitally Active™, today jointly announced at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that Kensington will distribute, sell and market AC, DC and AC/DC power adapters for mobile computing devices featuring Comarco's ChargeSource 'form factor' technology, starting in the month of January. The new collaboration is part of a multi-year partnership agreement.

Individuals on the go depend on their mobile computing devices be readily charged. According to Ian Lombard, director of product strategy at Kensington, users of mobile computing devices care most about how much power the chargers can efficiently produce to reliably meet the requirements of their particular mobile computing device(s) and how easy it is to carry and use the charger.

"At Kensington, we see Comarco's ChargeSource 'form factor' technology, today and for the foreseeable future, as the pre-eminent approach to reliably and efficiently produce the right amount of power for a variety of mobile computing devices, while allowing the charging device to be the smallest and lightest available in the marketplace," said Lombard.

The various Kensington-branded chargers feature ChargeSource charging technology for mobile computing devices such as laptop computers, mobile phones, PDAs, portable DVD players, digital cameras, digital recorders and gaming consoles. The Kensington-branded chargers will be on sale starting this month in retail outlets such as Circuit City, COMPUSA and Apple Computer stores.

Tom Schmidt, vice president and general manager of Comarco's ChargeSource division, said, "Kensington is a trusted brand that enhances the lifestyle of the digitally active and has earned the respect of both consumers and enterprise road warriors. We are quite pleased that Kensington views the ChargeSource 'form factor' approach to charging mobile computing devices as the preferred technology that meets Kensington's highest standards."

Chargers for Low-, Medium- and High-Power Mobile Computing Devices

The agreement between Comarco and Kensington allows Kensington to sell, distribute and market a variety of chargers featuring ChargeSource technology. Some are designed specifically for low-voltage mobile computing devices such as cell phones, others for medium-voltage hardware such as portable DVD players, digital cameras and camcorders, and the latest high-powered laptop and laptop computers that require chargers that can provide the necessary replenished energy without overheating.

Following is the lineup of chargers featuring ChargeSource technology that Kensington will make available to the marketplace, this month:

  • 120-watt AC/DC. The charger is a fully integrated power adapter connecting laptops, mobile phones, PDAs and other electronic devices to any power source. The ChargeSource universal 120-watt AC/DC unit connects to standard outlets, vehicle outlets and airplane outlets, eliminating the need to carry multiple adapters. There is no need for any additional accessories to charge other electronic devices, as SmartTips™for specific mobile computing devices are available to adjust the adapter to the specific mobile computing device. Kensington also has a 120-watt DC charger, specifically used for charging on airplanes and cars.

  • 70-watt AC/DC. This charger can charge up to 70-watt laptops and is a fully integrated power adapter connecting mobile phones, PDAs and other electronic devices to any power source. Like the 120-watt AC/DC charger, this charger fits with standard outlets, vehicle outlets or airplane outlets, eliminating the need to carry multiple adapters.

  • 70-watt DC. This charger is used to recharge and power mobile computing devices from power-enabled airline seats and includes an adapter for standard power outlets found in cars, boats and RVs. With the 70-watt DC product, users are able to plug into an aircraft's in-flight power source or an automobile power outlet to deliver uninterrupted power to a laptop or any other electronic device. Also, with the ChargeSource technology, a user can charge multiple electronic devices by simply changing the SmartTips without any additional accessories.

  • 70-watt AC. This charger is a slim, light and powerful power adapter typically used in a home, office or hotel.

  • 40-watt AC/DC. This charger plugs into any standard wall, automobile or airplane outlet and, via SmartTips, powers electronic devices such as portable DVDs, mobile phones, smart phones, PDAs, digital cameras, camcorders, game boy's etc.
